Roses are a beautiful and complex flower. Their aroma is divine. It’s difficult to hold a rose and not put it up to my face and inhale the sweet scent. Rose petals are velvety soft to the touch. The soft, swirling layers of petals are exceptional at drawing us in.
It can be difficult to translate the beauty of a rose or, any flower for that matter, into a painting. I’ve continued to paint roses because I’m finding it the most effective way to learn the flow of watercolor paints.
When painting with watercolors I layer from light to dark. There’s a delicate balance that needs to be obtained between the paint and the water. Sometimes, it can be difficult to lay down layers of watercolor paint without over saturating the paper with water.
I’m loving the end result and enjoying the process. By the time I’m done, I should have a lovely collection to display.
